About the Client
For Laura translation is in her identity Originally from Italy, she can speak multiple languages including English and Mandarin. So, when it came to designing her brand translation and communication played an important part. Her brand needed to connect with the UK tech space, without losing her Italian clients.
Discovery
At the start of her Design in a Day Session, Laura highlighted that she liked the idea of an animal being used in her logo – with either a Fennec Fox or Honeybee as both are known for the communication skills. From further research the Honeybee made more sense to Laura’s brand: with her being based in Manchester and the connection to Italian Honeybees to the UK. She had an idea of colours – focusing mostly on blues and greens as these were common in the tech industry and discussed other colours that could be potential accent colours.

Design & Development

During the Design Session we created Laura’s logo adding 3 lines to the bee – this represented two areas of Laura’s identity: her 3 pillar framework and the Italian flag with similar colours being used. As Laura’s main logo is quite detailed, we simplified it for her logo mark – replicating the 3 lines and hexagonal shapes used throughout her brand to provide consistency.
Along with the blues and greens that Laura had picked out originally, we also added a lemon yellow as a differentiator colour that would be unique to the industry she was working with and connected back to her Italian roots.
To connect the brand together we designed bespoke patterns and icons that focused on punctuation to highlight the communication side of Laura’s brand. We kept these quite angular, to keep the connection with the hexagonal style of Laura’s logo. This pattern along with her bee as a standalone asset was replicated onto her social media templates.

Result
For Laura, her brand is truly connected to her. She now has a full set of brand design assets that enables her to position her business to connect with the tech industry, but still keeping her uniqueness through the colour and design choices. For Laura, doing Design in a Day meant that she could have her brand assets quickly, so she wasn’t losing momentum in her business.
